Botox vs. Dysport vs. Daxxify: Which Is Right for You (and What It Costs in Kansas City)

Three brands, one goal: you, looking rested. Here's how Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify actually differ, and how we choose the right one for your face.
IN THIS BLOG POST
"Can I get Botox?" is one of the questions we hear most. What people usually mean is something closer to: can you soften these lines without anyone knowing I did anything? The answer is yes. The more interesting question is which neurotoxin gets you there best.
Botox has become shorthand for the whole category, the way people say Kleenex for any tissue. But there are several FDA-approved neurotoxins, and at Horizon we offer three of them: Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify. They share the same goal. They differ in how fast they kick in, how they settle into the muscle, and how long they last.
If you've ever wondered why your friend swears by Dysport, or why your last treatment seemed to wear off early, this one is for you.
Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify: Same Goal, Different Formulas
All three are forms of botulinum toxin type A. Placed in tiny, precise amounts, they temporarily quiet the signal that tells a muscle to contract. When the muscle relaxes, the skin over it stops folding, and the lines soften: forehead lines, the "11s" between your brows, and crow's feet around the eyes.
Neurotoxins treat dynamic wrinkles, the lines caused by movement. They don't add volume. That's why tox and filler do different jobs, and why a face that looks tired from volume loss usually needs a different plan (more on that in our post on why your face may be changing, not aging).
Where the three brands differ is the formulation around the active molecule: how it's stabilized, how it's dosed, and how it behaves once it's in the muscle. One important detail up front: units are not interchangeable between brands. Twenty units of Botox and twenty units of Dysport are not the same treatment, which matters a lot when you start comparing prices.
Botox: The Gold Standard
Botox Cosmetic is the original and the most studied neurotoxin in aesthetics. That track record is its biggest strength. Results are predictable, dosing is well understood, and it's a beautiful choice for precise areas like the brow and crow's feet.
Most people start to see Botox working in 3 to 5 days, with full results at around 10 to 14 days. Results typically last 3 to 4 months.
Best for: first-timers, precise areas, and anyone who wants the most familiar, predictable option.
Dysport: Faster Onset, Softer Spread
Dysport often kicks in a little faster, and many patients notice a difference within 2 to 3 days. It also tends to diffuse slightly more once it's placed. In the right hands, that's an advantage across larger areas like the forehead, where it can create a soft, even result that still lets you move.
Dysport is dosed differently than Botox. It typically takes about 2.5 to 3 units of Dysport to equal one unit of Botox, so the price per unit is lower, but you'll use more units. Longevity is similar to Botox, usually 3 to 4 months.
Best for: larger areas like the forehead, and people who want to see results quickly.
Daxxify: The Longest-Lasting Option
Daxxify is the newest of the three. It was FDA approved in 2022 for frown lines and is the first neurotoxin stabilized with a peptide instead of human serum albumin, so it contains no animal-derived components. In clinical trials, the median result lasted about 6 months, and some patients held their results for up to 9 months, according to the FDA prescribing information.
Many patients also see results within 1 to 2 days.
The tradeoff is that a Daxxify session usually costs more up front. For many of our patients, fewer appointments a year makes that math work out.
Best for: busy schedules, anyone who feels like Botox wears off too fast, and people who want to keep results steady with as few visits as possible.

How Much Does Botox Cost in Kansas City?
At Horizon, neurotoxin pricing runs $4.50 to $13.50 per unit, depending on the brand. But here's the part a lot of med spas leave out: price per unit is almost meaningless on its own.
Because each brand is dosed differently, a lower per-unit price doesn't mean a lower treatment price. For example, the FDA-labeled dose for frown lines is 20 units of Botox, 50 units of Dysport, or 40 units of Daxxify. Your actual cost depends on the areas you treat, the strength of your muscles, and the result you want. Men and anyone with stronger expression lines usually need more units.
The better way to compare is by the area and by the year. Ask what your full treatment costs, and how many times a year you'll realistically need it. A treatment that costs more per visit but lasts twice as long can end up costing about the same over twelve months.
One more thing worth saying: be careful with the too-good-to-be-true per-unit special. Under-dosed tox wears off in weeks, not months, and you end up paying twice. You deserve a provider who tells you exactly how many units you need, and why. We'll always quote your units and total cost before anything is injected, and financing through PatientFi is available if you'd like to spread out the cost.
How We Choose the Right Neurotoxin for Your Face
There's no universally "best" neurotoxin. There's the best one for your face, your schedule, and your history. At your consultation, your provider will look at how your muscles move, where your lines form, how quickly past treatments have worn off, and whether you have an event coming up.
A few examples of how that plays out:
If you've never had tox before, we often start with Botox for its predictability, then adjust from there.
If your forehead is your main concern, Dysport's softer spread can give an especially natural finish.
If you find yourself back in the chair every 10 weeks, Daxxify may keep you looking rested with fewer visits.
If you have a wedding, holiday party, or photos coming up, book at least two weeks ahead so results have fully settled.
The goal is always the same: undetectable. People should notice you look rested, not that you had something done. And because your provider gets to know your face over time, every visit gets a little more precise than the last.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify
What's the difference between Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify?
All three are botulinum toxin type A neurotoxins that relax the muscles causing expression lines. Botox is the most established and predictable. Dysport often works a little faster and spreads more softly. Daxxify is peptide-stabilized and typically lasts longer, with a median of about 6 months in clinical trials.
Which neurotoxin lasts the longest?
Daxxify generally lasts the longest. In clinical trials, results lasted a median of about 6 months, and some patients maintained results for up to 9 months. Botox and Dysport typically last 3 to 4 months.
How much does Botox cost in Kansas City?
At Horizon Med Spa & Wellness, neurotoxins range from $4.50 to $13.50 per unit depending on the brand. Your total depends on the areas treated and how many units you need, so we q
uote your exact cost at your consultation before treatment.
Is Dysport cheaper than Botox?
Dysport usually has a lower price per unit, but it takes about 2.5 to 3 Dysport units to equal one Botox unit. The total cost of a treatment is often similar. Compare the full treatment price, not the per-unit price.
Can I switch between Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify?
Yes. Many patients switch based on their goals, their schedule, or how long their last treatment lasted. Your provider will adjust your dose for the new brand, since units don't convert one to one.
How far before an event should I get Botox?
Book at least two weeks before a wedding, party, or photos. That gives the product time to reach full effect and leaves room for a small touch-up if you need one.
