Discover the best stackable med spa treatments in Kansas City including dermaplaning, IPL, VI Peel, Morpheus8, Sculptra, filler + IV drips, for glowing skin
Stackable treatments are services that can be safely performed during the same appointment (or in a planned series), one right after the other, to address multiple concerns at once, like texture, pigment, laxity, and hydration.

IN THIS BLOG POST:

As the weather starts to warm and everyone prepares to be outside and around people, many begin asking which treatments are both summer-safe and results driven. While many treatments will yield highly efficacious results, the most “bang for your buck” often comes from strategically stacking treatments.

Stackable treatments are services that can be safely performed during the same appointment (or in a planned series), one right after the other, to address multiple concerns at once—like texture, pigment, laxity, and hydration.

At Horizon Med Spa & Wellness in Kansas City, our approach is always personalized: we’ll talk through your goals, your timeline (events, travel, sun exposure), and your comfort level, then recommend the best treatment pairing for your skin.

Why stack treatments? (and how we customize your plan)

When treatments work on different layers of the skin—or target different issues—you can often get a more comprehensive transformation without “over-treating.” Think: exfoliation + targeted pigment correction + collagen remodeling, all in a strategy that fits your lifestyle.

Dermaplaning add-on: instant smooth + makeup-ready glow

dermaplane is a great stackable treatment at a med spa
Dermaplane can be a stand-alone treatment or an add-on to your facial treatment.

First on the list is dermaplaning. A dermaplane is a quick and easy add-on to many aesthetic services. Whether you’re getting injectables, lasers, or a facial, a dermaplane can be added on (when appropriate) before your service.

Dermaplaning is a form of physical exfoliation with the added aesthetic benefit of removing vellus hairs ("peach fuzz") on the face. This add-on is performed by our licensed estheticians and only takes about 20 minutes to complete.

This treatment will not add any downtime to many of your aesthetic treatments. It is important to note that after a dermaplane, your skin is freshly exfoliated and will be more sensitive to exfoliation, retinoids, and other strong ingredients. It’s best to stick to a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF for a few days following your dermaplaning treatment.

IPL + VI Peel: the pigment and texture power duo

Stacking Lumecca IPL and a VI Peel is one of my favorite things to do in the treatment room. When stacked, these two treatments are truly the ultimate duo.

IPL (intense pulsed light) helps target sun damage, brown spots, redness, and visible broken capillaries—while also supporting collagen for a more radiant look. At Horizon Med Spa & Wellness, we customize IPL based on your concerns and goals.

Patients will typically describe IPL as feeling like a flash of heat and a rubber band snap against the skin—maybe not the best feeling, but, hey, ‘beauty is pain’.

Though IPL is extremely effective at breaking down pigment, coupling it with a VI Peel in the same session can enhance those pigment-erasing results while also tackling concerns like congestion, acne, texture, fine lines, and wrinkles.

VI Peels are medical-grade peels designed for a variety of concerns and skin types. You can read more about VI Peel options on our Facials & Peels page.

This treatment has minimal downtime. Redness and inflammation are to be expected for the following week along with sloughing of pigmented lesions and increased sensitivity. It is incredibly important to use a simplified homecare routine for the following week. The exciting part? You can cover up any redness or irritation with makeup as soon as the next day!

If pigment is a main concern, conditions like melasma can require a long-term plan. Talk to your Licensed Esthetician at Horizon Med Spa and Wellness to discuss a care plan that works best for your skin.

Sculptra + dermal filler: volume now, collagen later

Sculptra and dermal filler are two injectable options that can complement each other beautifully when your goals include both “immediate refresh” and “long-term collagen support.”

Sculptra and dermal filler are great stackable treatments at a med spa
Filler and Sculptra are a great aesthetic treatment combo. Filler restores volume, while Sculptra stimulates collagen production.

Filler is typically used for volume loss, plumping of the lips, and contouring of the jawline and midface. While filler works to plump, restore, and contour, Sculptra is a biostimulator that works beyond simply adding volume.

Sculptra works gradually over time to stimulate collagen production, soften fine lines, improve skin elasticity, and help restore some facial volume.

This treatment has downtime. You can expect inflammation at the site of the injection which typically subsides within two weeks, along with mild bruising.

IPL + Morpheus8 RF microneedling: tighten, smooth, and even tone

Another great stackable treatment we offer is IPL and Morpheus8 radiofrequency (RF) microneedling.

IPL offers benefits of pigment reduction, reduction in redness and broken capillaries, as well as collagen remodeling. Morpheus8 is an FDA-cleared RF microneedling device that remodels collagen, tightens and contours the skin, and can yield significant results when used to treat acne scars, sagging skin, and stubborn pockets of fat.

The device uses microneedles to deliver RF energy at specific depths to improve texture and support firmer-looking skin.

Pairing these treatments yields beautiful results: you’ll get a clearer, more even skin tone from IPL paired with textural improvements and contouring from Morpheus8.

Morpheus8 is minimally invasive, but does have a moderate amount of pain associated with the treatments. To make this treatment more comfortable, we numb the area of treatment topically with lidocaine, and in certain cases, further numbing is available for patient tolerance.

These treatments (especially stacked) will require about a week of social downtime. You’ll need to avoid sun exposure, and make sure the face is properly cleansed morning and night and finished with the appropriate skincare products. It is best to consult with your provider to determine the best post-care option for your skin.

Add an IV drip: recovery, hydration, and overall vitality support

Last but not least, one of my favorite stackable upgrades is adding a Drip IV to a service you are receiving at Horizon.

IV drips are tailored to your specific needs. We have drips designed for energy, recovery, immunity, and overall vitality. Our IVs are essentially pain-free. You can expect a small pinch when the catheter is inserted, and then no discomfort while the IV is in place.

This treatment can help you feel more energized and hydrated, with effects that can potentially last for days after your treatment.

Your Summer Glow Game Plan

As summer approaches, there’s no better time to be strategic about your skincare and aesthetic goals. By thoughtfully stacking treatments, you’re not only maximizing your time in the treatment room, but also enhancing your overall results in a safe and effective way.

Whether you’re smoothing and brightening with Morpheus8 and IPL, erasing pigment with IPL and VI Peel, adding on a dermaplane for an extra glow, or staying a little extra time to add a Drip IV to help yourself look and feel your best, combining services allows you to target multiple concerns at once for a more comprehensive transformation.

The key is a thorough consultation, a customized treatment plan, and diligent post-care. While these treatments are generally safe to stack, a comprehensive consultation with your provider is essential to determine the best approach for your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stackable Treatments

Can I do IPL and a VI Peel in the same appointment?

Often, yes—when your provider determines it’s appropriate for your skin type, goals, and recent sun exposure. The benefit is that IPL targets pigment/redness, while VI Peel supports texture, clarity, and overall tone.

Is dermaplaning safe to add on before a facial or peel?

Dermaplaning can be a great add-on for instant smoothness and better product penetration, but your provider will confirm whether it’s the right choice based on sensitivity, active acne, and your treatment plan that day.

What’s the best combo for sun damage and brown spots?

IPL is one of our go-to options for sun damage and discoloration, and it’s commonly paired with chemical peels (like VI Peel) for more comprehensive tone and texture results.

How much downtime should I plan for Morpheus8 (especially when stacked)?

Plan for about a week of “social downtime” for redness, swelling, and texture changes—especially when combining Morpheus8 with other modalities. Your provider will guide you based on settings and treatment area.

Can I combine Sculptra and filler?

Many patients benefit from a strategy that uses filler for immediate contour and Sculptra for gradual collagen stimulation. Your injector will recommend timing and placement to keep results natural and balanced.

What’s a good “event-ready” stack if I want glow without a lot of downtime?

Dermaplaning paired with a customized facial is a popular “glow” combo. For higher-impact options like peels, IPL, or RF microneedling, your best event-ready timeline depends on your skin and the date—so schedule a consult early.
